In his book “Super Human: The Bulletproof Plan to Age Backward and Maybe Even Live Forever”, Dave Asprey shares his quest to become “biologically younger” and achieve peak performance. By following the protocols in this book, readers can expect to see improvements in their energy levels, skin health, brain function, and more.

Asprey’s journey began with a wake-up call: at age 30, he was overweight, had high blood pressure, struggled with brain fog, and felt like he was aging faster than his years.

Determined to turn things around, Dave began experimenting with various biohacking techniques (such as diet, supplements, sleep hacking, cold therapy, and more).

After years of trial and error (and tons of self-experimentation), Dave has finally compiled all of his best anti-aging strategies into one comprehensive book.

In “Super Human“, he explains how readers can use these same techniques to slow down the aging process, improve their physical and mental health, and live their best lives.

Overview of ‘Seven Pillars of Aging’

There are seven pillars of aging, which are:

  • physical activity – important for maintaining muscle mass and bone density as we age. It can also help to prevent falls and improve balance.
  • nutrition – important for maintaining a healthy body weight, preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, and providing the nutrients our bodies need to function properly.
  • sleep – vital for overall health and well-being, and can help to reduce stress levels.
  • stress management – important for keeping our bodies in a state of homeostasis (although, in some respects, we want to kick our bodies out of homeostasis, such as with fasting or physical exercise, to provide it with healthy physical stress. This forces our body’s natural repair mechanisms to bring us to a healthier state).
  • brain training – helps to keep our brains sharp as we age.
  • detoxification – helps to remove toxins from our bodies that can contribute to aging.
  • hormone optimization – helps to keep our hormones in balance, which can impact many aspects of our health as we age.

Analysis of ‘Aging Backwards’

Dave Asprey, author of “Super Human: The Bulletproof Plan to Age Backward and Maybe Even Live Forever,” is a biohacker who has made it his mission to upgrade the human body and mind. In this superhuman book, he outlines his view that aging is largely caused by damage at the cellular level, and that we can reverse this damage by taking advantage of recent scientific discoveries.

Asprey cites several studies in support of his claims, including one in which mice were given a compound that prevented the deterioration of their telomeres (the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes).

The treated mice not only lived longer than untreated mice, but they also retained their youthful appearance and activity levels.

While some of Asprey’s ideas may seem far-fetched, he makes a compelling case that aging is not an inevitable process, and that we have the power to slow down or even reverse its effects.

Whether or not you buy into all of Asprey’s claims, “Super Human” is an interesting read that will leave you thinking about the ways in which we can improve our health and extend our lives.

A look at Asprey’s ‘Healing Like a Deity’ strategies

In the section of his Super Human book called “Healing like a Deity,” he details several strategies for self-healing, including visiting pine forests for outdoor time or at least using cypress tree essential oils in your essential oil diffuser for the healing properties.

He also insists that any aggressive anti-aging strategy must include stem cell treatments. He details several ways that you can get treatments from functional medical practitioners.

But what I like (until I can afford stem cell treatments) is his bulleted list of 10 different ways you can increase the number and/or vitality of your stem cells through natural things like:

  • Tai chi exercises;
  • taking resveratrol regularly; and,
  • cutting sugar from your diet to lower insulin resistance.

Those are not only affordable but, if you’re serious about developing a healthy longevity lifestyle, doable!

These are just a few of the strategies Asprey details in his book – others include, sleep hacks, using healing peptides, ingesting Carbon 60 (also known as fullerenes) as an anti-aging compound, and more. With so many options available, readers are sure to find something that works for them.

How does ‘Super Human’ Compare to Other Books on Aging?

In his biohacking book, “Super Human: The Bulletproof Plan to Age Backward and Maybe Even Live Forever”, Dave Asprey makes several claims about aging that are backed by science. He says that aging is a result of inflammation and cell damage, both of which can be controlled with diet and lifestyle changes. He also claims that we can turn back the hands of time by following his tips on everything from sleep to skin care.

So, how does “Super Human” compare to other books on aging?

For one, Asprey is very upfront about the fact that there is no magic bullet when it comes to aging. He doesn’t claim to have found the fountain of youth, but he does believe that we can all slow down the aging process by making some simple changes in our lives.

Another difference between “Super Human” and other books on aging is the amount of scientific evidence that Asprey provides to support his claims. In many cases, he cites specific studies or experiments that have been conducted on animals or humans.

This makes his book much more convincing than those that simply offer general advice without any concrete evidence to back it up.

Finally, “Super Human” includes a comprehensive plan for reversing the signs of aging. While other books may touch on some of the same topics, such as diet and exercise, they typically don’t provide as much detail as Asprey does here. (and you’ll find the studies backing up his claims in the Notes section in the back of his superhuman book.)

If you’re looking for a step-by-step guide to slowing down the aging process, “Super Human” may be the perfect biohacking book for you.

Pros and Cons of ‘Super Human’

There are a lot of things to consider before reading Dave Asprey’s “Super Human.” The book promises to be a comprehensive guide to becoming superhuman, but is it worth your time?

Here are some pros and cons to help you decide.


  • “Super Human” is jam-packed with useful information on everything from diet and nutrition to sleep and stress management. Asprey is clearly passionate about his subject, and his enthusiasm is contagious. The book is also well-researched and offers plenty of scientific evidence to support Asprey’s claims.
  • I bought this book mostly for the information on peptide healing, stem cell therapy, and red light therapy. The only other book I’ve found that also delves into those arenas is Life Force by Tony Robbins, another valuable resource for biohackers and longevity seekers.


However, there are a few downsides to “Super Human.”

  • First of all, the book is very dense and complex, which can make it difficult to follow at times.
  • Secondly, some of Asprey’s recommendations (such as leaving the country for stem cell therapies, getting ozone IV treatments, or spending time in an Atmospheric Cell Trainer) may not be realistic for everyone. (Unless you’re in Asprey’s income range.)
  • Thirdly, just like Tony Robbins book Life Force, and Dr. Gundry’s book The Longevity Paradox, this book is also a marketing tool for Asprey’s supplements and services.
  • Finally, the price tag for “Super Human” ($17 for the Kindle edition, when I last checked) may be a bit steep for some readers. (Although, I gotta say, if it’s not worth $17 to you to live another 40, 50, or more years, perhaps you need to put down the cigarette and martini and reexamine your priorities.)


I hope you got enough information out of this SuperHuman review to decide if this is the biohacking book for you.

However, I want to make one thing clear.

Nowhere in his Super Human book does Asprey say anything about using embryonic stem cells other than the fact that with today’s resources and technology, there is no justification for using them (aside from those taken from the placenta after a baby is born – the placenta is normally just thrown in a biohazard bag for incineration).

There are plenty of sources of pluripotent stem cells without disturbing any emerging life.

Okay, two things clear.

Asprey’s current healthy longevity target is 180 years. Think about that when you’re deciding how long you’d like to live!

That said, this superhuman book is a great read that goes right to the heart of what it means to live long and healthy in today’s world.

Through cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs and lifestyle hacks, Asprey delivers insight into how we can become our best selves and strive to reach peak performance both mentally and physically.
